Located on the beautiful grounds of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama, is a replica of the Lourdes Grotto. The Grotto was dedicated on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7, 2008 and is located behind the John Paul II Eucharistic Center at the Shrine. The Lourdes Grotto is used for, among others, the Diocese of Birmingham’s annual Rosary for Life and Vocations. Like in France, the Grotto rests alongside a river; in this case it is the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. The altar at the Grotto contains 33 relics of the saints. Behind the altar pilgrims are able to light votive candles that burn for three days. Also, a plenary indulgence has been granted, to those who visit the Lourdes Grotto, under the usual conditions, i.e. Sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intention of the Holy Father. The Shrine and Grotto are open Monday-Saturday 6am-8pm and Sunday 6am-6pm. Come and see!
